I’ve long respected Malcolm X as nothing short of a force of nature when it comes to political activism.  This is one of Malcolm X’s more popular quotes, but unfortunately, I’ve been unable to locate the original source.  The closest I’ve been able to come is this book review by GreenLeft, which doesn’t cite a source, but simply regurgitates the quote.

So I put it to the tumblr-verse: where does this Malcolm X quote originate from?  Was it a speech?  A newspaper article?  An interview?  A book?  An essay?  I cannot verify the source of this quote and it’s driving me crazy.

Update:  props to peaceinstrength, who discovered the source of this quote on page 276 of this collection of Speeches, Debates, and Interviews.  The quote appears in a transcript from the Audubon Ballroom, Dec. 13, 1964.  Amazing job!
